In addition to having long winded opinions on pretty much everything, I have a fantastic memory. Remember this question? https://answersrip.com/question/index?qid=20081221175346AADT34k
You did get best answer.
If you see a question, the line below will read:
"In Singles & Dating - Asked by asig33882003 - 7 answers - 2 days ago - Open"
It would be easy enough for Yahoo to ask for a birth date to all registered users and the line would could read:
"In Singles & Dating - Asked by asig33882003 - 24 y/o - 7 answers - 2 days ago - Open"
Unfortunately the same issues that you found in my idea apply here. To get more answers, middle schoolers could create accounts with fake birthdays.
Personally, I like answering the questions in this section, even though a lot of them suck. I try to use contacts that are good at picking out some of the more interesting queries from the more mature askers.
One thing Yahoo could do to help is allow us to sort the open questions in various sections by different variables. For instance, you might want to sort open questions in Singles & Dating based upon the number of stars they receive. b/c people don't star "Omg!!!!.lol.bnew bf,he dumped another gir; for me XD?" You might also weed out the junk by sorting the open questions by the number of answers they received. b/c not a lot of people are gonna answer "Omg!!!!.lol.bnew bf,he dumped another gir; for me XD?" either. But there would be other advantages for users with a different agenda. Someone trying to bolster their best answers, might want to sort questions with the fewest answers so that they can find older ones that everyone else neglected where they have less competition. Right now, we can only sort questions by date and time of posting. That seems kind of silly, doesn't it?? Plus if they default sort was by recently asked, most people would be too stupid too figure out how to sort it differently.
I do agree w/ you that anything that can be done to help weed out some of the retarded questions would be great.
EDIT:
Okay, now I feel dumb b/c you can sort open questions by the number of answers they received and not by date. Perhaps you would find more fun questions to deal w/ doing that. Maybe I will too.
