Guys or Girls that know about cars!!!! Please help?

I am thinking of buying my First car (been using my mums)
I have looked around and seen a
Grande Fiat Punto 1.4 16v Manuel
Black with black leather seats, Climate and Cruise control 17" Alloys Cost £ 12,020.00
Or
Vauxhall Corsa SXi 1.4 16v Manuel
Black with black cloth seats, Climate and Cruise control 16" Alloys Multi trip computer Sports suspension Cost £12,070.00

Can you advise me as to which is the better car and value for money as I don't really have anyone who knows about cars in my family (or none willing to help!!)

If I had to choose between them I would go for the Corsa....The Puntos are notorious for the head gasket going after about 40000 miles and the clutch will follow shortly afterwards.



Have you looked at any VW Golfs?

Even tho. the residual value on both cars will be poor in a few years time

You get bigger alloys are more stylish looking car leather seats



The engine does have bad perception but the fact of the matter is mechanincs are bit dumb in this country and dont know a good engine when they see one



the 1.4 hums like a dream and you will really fly in the Punto



you will go quick in the Corsa as well but the power band takes longer to get going and therefore pick up is poorer



the Punto has better and lighter handling and is cheaper to service but that depends on where you go to service it

it all depends on the registration year. You also have to think about insurance as wel because the bigger or faster the engine the dearer the insurance will be. Cars such as audi, golf, vectra,calibra, toyotas, subaru etc are expensive. You need a small car and buying a punto, corsa, peugeut, ford etc, is good for insurance.



why not look in local newspapers or car dealers and buy a reasonable priced standard car, get it insured and then with the money left over that is free to spend, do the car up a bit yourself and that way the insurance co wont know and its not fraud because you havent changed the engine for a 2.0 unless you do

if you have that much to spend on a car i wouldn't choose either of them.

you don't say your age and this would have an affect on the cost of insurance which could be expensive and an important factor when deciding on a car.

fuel consumption is important.

insurance class.

maintenance costs.

reliability.

don't just go for the looks or colour or trim or seats or alloys.

for a first time buy with that sort of money i would look at the VW golf or polo. Diesel versions. sensible long lasting,reliable,good fuel consumption,polo mt'ce costs are cheap,and insurance is ok.and they keep their value more than corsas or punto's.

avoid peugeot and citeron, theres a lot about cos they are cheap and not too reliable.good luck.

Volkswagen Polos are quite nice cars and reliable, I wouldnt go for FIAT. Corsas are ok as Ive had one. You should keep to 1.4 or lower engine wise, or you will pay through the nose on insurance, build up your no claims for a few years. Go to one or two garages and do some test drives as that may help you decide.

I have met a few people who own punto's and they all had fairly major problems. Whilst no experience of either car I would suggest a Corsa is a safer bet.

Umm I would pick Vauxhall if you're going for more fun. But reliability you should go with the Fiat. Although both are gonna cost you a crap load to fix. For a first time car I'd recommend getting something cheaper, because 99% of drivers crash their first car. As I have on the last 3.... but not my fault...

I think to determine a girl car from a guy car, the guy will have like a trailer hitch thingie, and the girl car will have that square hole thingie that things go into to connect it. Now, if it has both, then there's a problem! I suppose if that's the case, then you could choose its gender. =]]

none of these, that choice is S**T.

colour good - black

spec good - interior, cli & cru cont 17" alloys(always this choice)

but i would rather have a golf 1.6 tdi with tinted windows.
