Why did you choose to apply at Hot Topic?

I am filling out job applications and right now, I am on this question in a Hot Topic job application. I am not sure how to answer why I chose to apply at Hot Topic. I use to listen to bands like Green Day, Simple Plan and Good Charlotte but I don't listen to bands anymore. I want to say I applied because I like the merchandise. I like that it's practically the only store that sells Sailor Moon merchandise and I like the Disney merchandise as well. I just don't think liking the merchandise is a good enough response. Can someone help me with answering this question?

Well with job apps you don't always have to be 100% honest, if everyone was, nobody would have a job. So you can put whatever sounds good as long as your a good worker it shouldn't matter. However I believe that just being a fan of the merchandise would suffice. Hot topic sells A LOT of band merch though, and most, if not all the employees know about music and bands. Customers will most likely ask questions about music, so you should know your stuff. Just like if you went to work at Vans or Zumiez, they sell cool merchandise, but they specialize in skating, you'd need to be into that sort of thing and know about different boards and such. If your not really into music, my suggestion to you would be to apply somewhere else like Spencer's, or Journeys.

Actually with a little rewording, that would make a good answer. What's the point in applying if you're not passionate about the merchandise in which they sell? Maybe explain you love their diversity, how it's relatable/personal to you and what you have to offer a place like that.

Don't work there. Those bands (except for early Green Day, which I respect) suck.
