Why did my ex message me?

I haven't seen my ex since January and I haven't really talked to him since then either.. He's moved on and he's got a girlfriend. Has now for about 3-4 months. On Saturday morning at like 3-4 am he messaged me on Twitter asking if I was still up.. later when I did wake up I asked him what he wanted.

He said he wanted to ask me something but it was all good because he figured it out, I asked what it was and he said it was about life. I told him I get how that is.. and he replied with "yeah thanks anyways "

This isn't the only time he has messaged me about something like this, about 2 weeks ago he messaged me about how his current girlfriend isn't treating him right, and is making him feel unappreciated.

My question is why is he coming to me for advice etc.. when he has a girlfriend? It's like he's trying to re-connect emotionally, or keep that connection..

He probably still thinks of you as a friend and values your opinion. I mean, you can't really do anything as far as talking to someone about how they treat you like crap unless you're prepared to dump them.
