My mom suggested I try online dating?

It was kind of a strange conversation, lol.

I'm 21 and pretty shy. I've casually dated, but never had a "real" boyfriend. I think my parents are starting to get impatient about me not dating! It just completely took me by suprise that my mom would suggest it. She's pretty old fashioned as well as my dad, not really into technology. She brought up the topic about how her friend's son met his fiance online. Then she's like "maybe you should give an online dating site a try." She then went on about avoiding a bar scene and matching personalities, ect.

I thought about trying online dating but never got around to it. I always thought it would be awkward that if I did met someone; I would feel embarassed to tell people we met online. People would think I was desperate or a loser. Needless to say, the mother's suggestion changes my perspective quite a bit.

Any thoughts or advice about anything? How would you react if you parents suggested you tried online dating?

I met my fiance online five years ago through a Yahoo! game. It's better that way because you don't go into the relationship already expecting to be compatible (like with a dating site). You build a friendship and then it just kinda happens.



But on the other hand, I've talked to many people who have tried online dating sites and have been quite compatible. Don't be ashamed to say that's where you met, because these days, it's extremely common.

I know at first it sounds stupid and it makes you feel like a loser but give it a try soon enough you wouldn't care where you met the person.



I met my gf online we were dating online for about a month then decided to meet up. we're still dating now and we meet up regularly. I hit the jack pot with my gf, she's got all the qualities I desired and more though her bad points are quite nasty it really compliments her good points.

advice, be picky: online dating allows you to meet countless people from different walks of life so there's no shortage of potential partners.

chose someone you can trust and feel comfortable with.



even if it's online dating having more than one partner at a time can still be a headache but maybe it'll help you chose the best one.



and finally don't close off any opportunity of finding someone in real life.

To you smiley number 1 (the asker): I wouldn't recommend online dating as it is full of "left-over" people that couldn't do a better job in their towns and as a last resort, turn to the internet. For a few, it may be a struck of luck that they found someone that they clicked and are compatible with....for a lot (the untold stories and feelings of embarrassment) are the endless and endless of people they come across online and wouldn't dare to be caught in public again with those same people.



But if you want to give it a go ahead.....you have nothing to lose and may even be one of the many who are actually lucky enough to find the Mother Lode (the man of your dream)

well i won't tell you not to try online dating but beware way too many freaks out there weather its guys looking for girls or vice versa i know. i have been on so many online dating sites to try and find a good match and almost 85% of the girls i met were just phsyco's and freaks. most guys will put a profile pic up on those dating sites but the picture is false they look nothing like what the say. its pretty messed up but good luck anyway
