This guy and I used to snapchat each other during the xmas holidays. And in French class, he sits on a different group of tables, and I sit in the middle tables. Him and his friends are all in the so called "popular" group, I'm not. I'm not invisible I'm involved in the grade. But I don't necessarily hang out with those people, I'm friends with some of them though.

So he asks me out. "Hey are you free this weekend?" and goes on and on. I'm going down the stairs to my next class. But I thought that if I had said "no" maybe it'd look like I'm taking it too seriously and they'd make a fool of me. So I went with the joke. "Yeah, of course. I'd make time JUST for you!" and I went on. But it was almost the end of the staircase so in the end I rejected him. But I thought it was a joke.

In my next class, the guy that was walking behind us, listening in on the whole "let's go out" convo, he tells me "You know he was being serious right? Why did you reject him so hard" I honestly thought it was just another joke. It's funny. To a certain point.

"If a guy actually did this to a girl, and tells her it was a joke, it'd be such a dick move. No guy would ever do this, especially not in our school"

So it made me think... what if he WAS serious and I hurt him? I once had feelings for him. And he's pretty nice, it's just that we always joke around and so I thought this was just another joke.

If you are a shy girl who dresses plainly, he is the handsome captain of the football team and your high school is actually a stereotypical 80's high school coming of age movie. Then it was a practical joke.

He was serious and you did hurt him. Apologize and tell him you were a fool who watched one too many teen movies and are incapable of separating real life from fiction. He's probably been building up the courage to ask you out for months and was ruthlessly crushed from his perspective.

Ask him out and give him a chance. If it doesn't work out after so be it. At least your conscience is clear.

I'm not saying you should just accept a date from any guy that asks you out. But it sounds more like you are neutral or do like him. You just misunderstood his intentions. From what I can only surmise is taking all those cheesy teen movies and TV shows seriously.

I would say ask him if it was a prank then fine but if it wasent just apologize and say that you thought he was messing with you and then if you like maybe see if you want to ask him out
